∙ 9y agoNo. They are produced by bacteria as a way of defense against other microbes. We noticed that they did that and were able to extract the substance (an antibiotic) to use to kill off microbes that were infecting us.
Some of these microbes do live in soils but the soil itself it not making the antibiotic.
