== The hippopotamus (Scientific name: Hippopotamus amphibius) is a species of large mammal found in Africa. Its habitat ranges from below the Sahara to above the southernmost section of the continent. Hippopotami reside in large to small bodies of water with flat banks bordering rich grass plains. In the wild, a hippopotamus will keep an herbivorous diet, feeding on aquatic plants, soft short grass and fallen fruits. On rare occasions, a Hippopotamus will eat small or injured animals.
