In the American robin, birds from northern climes migrate to southern states. Birds in the south only withdraw in the coldest winters. That is why wintering robin flocks are so huge in the Carolinas and other states in the south, numbering in the thousands.

Robins migrate along the 37-degree isotherm. They move ahead of warm fronts and prefer to arrive just before or with rainy weather. Some Canadian robins migrate all the way to Texas and Florida.

Robins don't go anywhere in summer but they do change the color of their chests from red to brown.
