For hurricanes that hit the United States, mainly off of the northwest coast of Africa. They both accour when warm air and cool air gusts/winds combine and/or mix creating these tropical storms.

How are hurricanes named each year?

A tropical cyclone is given a name when it reaches tropical storm status, with winds of at least 39 mph. Each year has a list of 21 names for tropical cyclones. These names are in alphabetical order and alternated in gender. The letters Q, U, X, Y, and Z are not used as there are not enough names that start with these letters. As an example, the first four this year tropical storms and hurricanes were Alex, Bonnie, Colin, and Danielle. Normally names are re-used every six years unless a storm is particularly bad, in which case the name is retired and replaced.

Why tropical cyclone is not happening at the equator?

The rotation of a large-scale weather system depends on the Coriolis effect, in which moving air is deflected relative to earth's surface. This effect is strongest near the poles and diminishes to zero at the equator. Since this effect is weak at the lowest latitudes, tropical storms generally cannot organize within 5 degrees of the equator.

Where do typhoons form?

Typhoons start off as tropical thunderstorms. The strong winds pull in moisture from the oceans. The thunderstorms convert the moisture into heat. The heat causes more air to flow to the center of the storm which causes more evaporation. All the heat and air flow toward the eye creating the typhoon.

What is worst cyclone or tornado?

Such statements generally cannot be applied categorically, as the severity of impact of any of these events can vary widley. To start off, though, we must establish that a hurricane is a kind of cyclone, specifically an intense tropical cyclone. Hurricanes and other intense tropical cyclones such as typhoons are really the same thing. These storms are the most intense variety of cyclone and do have the most potential for death and destruction of all the events discussed here. However, not all tropical cyclones live up to their full destructive potential. Cyclones, including hurricanes, are large weather patterns that impact large areas. Mid-latitude cyclones are rarely as intense as even a minimal hurricane, but they can still have significant effects including blizzards, floods, and severe weather and tornado outbreaks. Tornadoes are a different phenomenon. They are small-scale weather events. Their effects are generally very localized, but the severity of damage in the small areas they hit is generally worse. So, while a hurricane may cause moderate damage across several states, a tornado can cause major damage limited to a single town.

Which one is more dangerous a tornado or a hurricane?

They each present their own unique challenges, but if you're going to get hit a tornado is more dangerous. While death tolls in hurricanes are usually higher than in tornadoes, that is mostly because hurricanes cover a much larger area. By contrast, while tornadoes affect a much smaller area they tend to produce more severe damage and there is less warning time. When a hurricane is coming you usually have a couple day's warning, while with a tornado you have minutes, and occasionally no warning.

How and where do typhoons start?

Typhoons usually start when a storm occurs mainly in areas close to the ocean (borders). They start off as tropical thunderstorms. Its basically just like hurricanes and cyclones. Its just that the place where they start that gives it its name. For example, they call that storm a typhoon in Japan.

Does a hurricane start a tropical depression?

Yes, hurricanes start out as tropical depressions.

Where do hurricanes start mostly?

All hurricanes start over the warm tropical oceans.

Do hurricanes start in Europe?

No, they start in tropical oceans.

Do Hurricans form over warm ocean water?

Indeed they do, and only warm ocean water. That is what hurricanes live on is the warmth of the ocean, which is why when they travel over land, they start to get weaker. The ocean is the warmest during hurricane season, for the Atlantic, hurricane season is June 1st - November 30th, hurricanes are also called cyclones in the Atlantic. For the Pacific, hurricanes are also called typhoons, and the hurricane season runs from May 15th - November 30th. Pacific starts about 1/2 a month earlier than the Atlantic.

Does a hurricane start out in the sky?

Not necessarily. Cyclones and hurricanes begin as a result of atmospheric conditions over the ocean.

Does a cyclone start at the water?

Not necessarily. Although tropical cyclones can only form over warm ocean water, extratropical cyclones can form over land.

Where do hurricanes occur on the equator?

No, Hurricanes occur in the tropics, but at the equator there is not enough Coriolis force to start them turning.

What causes tornadoes hurricanes typhoons and cyclones?

The formation of tornadoes is complicated.First, a condition called wind shear, in which the speed or direction of the wind changes with altitude. If the shear is strong enough it can essentially tilt a thunderstorm, this separates the updraft and downdraft of the thunderstorm, preventing them from interfering with one another. This allows the storm to become stronger and last longer.Additionally, if the wind shear is strong enough it can start the air rolling in what is called horizontal vorticity. This horizontal vorticity can then be turned vertical by a thunderstorm's updraft. When this happens, the thunderstorm may start rotating. The rotation is especially strong in an updraft called a mesocyclone. If the storm intensifies rapidly enough, a relatively warm downdraft called a rear-flank downdraft or RFD can wrap around the bottom part of the mesocyclone. This can then tighten and intensify its rotation and bring it down to the ground to produce a tornado.Hurricanes and typhoons form by a different mechanism. They start of as ordinary cluster of rain showers and/or thunderstorms that move out over warm ocean water. If the air is moist enough and there is little to no wind shear the storm cluster starts to strengthen as it "feeds" on the warm, moist air. As the storm intensifies it also begins to organize and rotate due to the Coriolis Effect. When the circulation becomes closed the system becomes a tropical depression and is classed as a tropical cyclone. When the maximum sustained winds of the storm reach 39 mph the system becomes a tropical storm and is given a name and when winds reach 74 mph it becomes a hurricane or, if it occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, a typhoon. There are two major types of cyclones: tropical cyclones and extratropical cyclones. The formation of tropical cyclones is described above. For information on extratropical cyclones, see the link below.

Do hurricanes start as a tropical oceans?

they start there because they need warm air to start. so yes that is why they start in that one part of the world.

What way do hurricanes spin in the Atlantic ocean?

The hurricane spins counterclockwise due to the Coriolis force In the north if Canada was in the south it would spin clockwise. this happens because as the earth spins it veers the winds in the north west and in the south east
