There's no need to alienate your present employer, particularly if you hope to get a letter of recommendation. Also, if you haven't been able to solve or address those problems while on the job, it's unlikely that writing a long drawn out letter will solve them. If you find that there is no growth potential in terms of responsibility or salary, it's time to move on. You could say something like, "I've enjoyed my time here at the ABC company, but I feel that I would like to explore other opportunities." Shake hands, smile, and say goodbye. Try not to burn any bridges...I know from bitter experience!

∙ 12y agoThank-you letters aren't usually sent after a resume is sent. If you're the job applicant, you would send a thank-you letter after an interview. If you're the interviewer, you would send a letter informing the applicant they weren't accepted. This doesn't need to be complicated or long.
