Corn grows into stalks for about 95-103 days at which time it has produced ears of new kernels (about 800 per ear), which is then harvested to either be ground into food, fed to cattle or used in renewable fuels such as ethanol. Corn is grown all over the world, particularly in the United States, Brazil, and China.

Corn is a hybrid form of maize, which was first domesticated in Mexico about 10,000 years ago. Wild maize has generally harder, less regular kernels, as is seen in so-called "flint corn" such as colored varieties sold as decorations. Modern popcorn (Zea mays everta) is a cultivar of flint corn.

Corn, or maize, is a type of grass. The seeds grow on a core. Corn on the cob basically means that the entire ear of corn is plucked off the stalk of grass, cooked and enjoyed.
