It's chemical structure is altered by the microwave and it becomes smoke, it doesn't actually melt in the microwave, it burns.
No, you need to do it on a stove with a thermometer to see if and when it opened. It is easier just to replace it. It is suprising that you didn't break the microwave by putting metal in it.
LOL If you want a melted one. You should do that on like a plate or something with something non stick so that it won't melt and stick onto the microwave. Have fun doing that! and tell me the results.I'm Nguyen P Le
Styrofoam is an insulator.
Yes, styrofoam is full of air cells and air is a good thermal insulator. Styrofoam has poor solvent resistance, and poor hot performance.
Styrofoam plates do not decompose, This makes them unsafe for the environment. Paper or plastic plates should be used since they can be recycled.
I don't think it's ever healthy to eat off melted styrofoam...

DO NOT USE STYROFOAM IN MICROWAVE !!!!!!!! Dangers include melting of styrofoam and leeching of toxic chemicals into food. Use glass dishes, stoneware or paper plates. Use only plastic containers labeled microwave safe. Additional information: Harvard Medical School has an online publication called Health Beat. There is a concise and informative article on this subject there: https://www.health.harvard.edu/healthbeat/HEALTHbeat_081606.htm
Typically, no matter how thick the Styrofoam is, it will melt at some point. Also, Styrofoam has been proven to contain chemicals that can leach into the food, even when stored, but especially when heated that can have a negative effect on health as well as reproduction.
