The Tropic of Cancer gets its name from the constellation Cancer. When the Sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer, it is in the constellation of Cancer, or at least it was back when the Tropic of Cancer was named. The seasons and constellations drift over time, if it were named today it would be the Tropic of Gemini.
