Answer 1:In the Hira Cave. Answer 2:Muslims believe that Gabriel of The Bible appeared to Mohammad at the Cave of Hira. A close examination would prove that Gabriel of the Bible did not appear to Mohammad. Following are the reasons:

1) The messages given were contradictory: Gabriel gave a message to Mary, the mother of Jesus, that Jesus would be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35). Gabriel gave a message to Prophet Daniel that Messiah would die for sins (Dan 9:24-26). The spirit that spoke to Mohammad gave a contradictory message. Hence the Biblical Gabriel did not speak to Mohammad.

2) The Biblical figures knew who appeared to them, Mohammad did not: Daniel, Zachariah and Mary knew that it was Gabriel who appeared to them (Daniel 9:21, Luke 1:19, Luke 1:26-35). Mohammad was not aware of who spoke to him at the Cave of Hira. It was the opinion of his wife Kadijah and his cousin Waraqa that made Mohammad to believe that it was Gabriel of the Bible who spoke to him.

3) The Biblical figures were never forced to do anything by Gabriel but Mohammad was forcefully pressed down to the ground: This spirit who spoke to Mohammad pressed him down forcefully and asked him to recite, to which the terrified Mohammad replied I cannot recite. This ordeal repeated three times!

4) The spirit was ignorant that Mohammad could not read : The spirit asked three times Mohammad to read. A real angel of God should have known that he do not know how to read.

5) Mohammad was terrified even hours after this spirit spoke to him: Mohammad had to go to Kadijah, his first wife, terrified and said "Cover me, cover me." This experience of fear was with Mohammad several days. This was never the case of Biblical prophets like Moses, Daniel or Elijah when angels spoke to them. Biblical figures were not fearful after the Gabriel talked to them.

6) Mohammad had suicidal thoughts after Jibriel's visit at the Cave of Hira: Mohammad was on the way to a mountain to throw himself down to commit suicide after Jibriel visitation. Biblical prophets never had this behavior after being visited by Gabriel.

7) Mohammad had revelations from Satan: Surah 22:52 is described as satanic verses as in the Salman Rushdie's book. Islamic interpretation of this verse in Ibn Kathir 1999 Printing, V5, P441 says that satan cast into Mohammad's mouth Surah 53:19-20 and he bowed down to idols. Biblical prophets such as Moses, Daniel or David never had revelations from Satan.

All these evidences show that Gabriel from God did to speak to Mohammad. He might have had a visit from an angel of Satan who can come as an angel of Light. Bible says: And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light (2Cor11:14). Satan is always against God's plan. Satan wanted to deceive millions of people by turning them from Jesus Christ who died for their sins to give them heaven.

Answer 3 (comments on Answer 2 with one to one correspondence):
  1. The contradictory message is due to human alterations introduced to the Bible and not because of contradictions in Gabriel sayings. One of the objectives of Quran revelation is to correct for deviations in the Bible written texts from the original revelations.
  2. Not logic that anyone; to whom Gabriel appeared for first; will know that it was Gabriel. Sure they knew afterward. The other point is that the current Bible texts are not real word God revelations but writings of some Christian leaders; some hundreds of years after Jesus claimed death; according to their own aspirations so how it is expected to explain the real feelings of all who saw Gabriel for first time.
  3. Muhammad was not forced to ground by the angel Gabriel. He was hugged by him three times. I never heard about this lie that he was forced to ground by Gabriel. Did prophet Muhammad told someone so? or someone was with them and so this incident?
  4. Does someone needs to know how to read when he reads the future?. It is a Quran verse to be conveyed to all followers of Islam and not intended to tell Muhammad to physically read something. There were no papers offered to him to read.
  5. It is true he was terrified. However, when prophet Muhammad returned back home, he was heavily sweating and his wife Khadija talked to her cousin Waraqah (he was prophet Jesus believer -and was deeply familiar with all God holy books) who told him that he was visited by the angel and he will be the prophet of this nation and that if he (Waraqa) will be alive until then he (Waraqa) will be the first to defend his message. This terror faded away immediately after that (did not last any longer) on the evidence that he went the other day to the cave again.
  6. Prophet Muhammad never thought of committing suicide. It is a crystal clear lie. He was faithful even before being assigned by God to call for Islam.
  7. Prophet Muhammad never bowed to any idol. Refer to Surah 22:52 to know that it is God verse talking about Satan and that is why called as satanic verses as in the Salman Rushdie's book (although Salman Rushdie is not Muslim believer and he fabricated many issues against Islam). Surah 53:18-23 say: " Indeed he (Muhammad) saw the supreme signs of his Lord (Muhammad's Lord). (18) So did you (The pagans) observe the idols Lat and Uzza? (19) And subsequently the third, the Manat? (20) What! For you (the pagans) the son, and for Him (the Lord) the daughter? (21) Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! (22) They (the idols) are nothing but some names that you (the pagans) have coined, you (the pagans) and your forefathers - Allah has not sent any proof for them (the pagans); they (the pagans) follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them.". So, the saying that Satan cast into Mohammad's mouth Surah 53:19-20 is a lie. Notice in the verses above that you is for plural (referring to the pagans) and singular to refer to the prophet. It is explicitly clear when you read the Arabic text as it differentiate between you for plural and you for singular.

It remains to say that:

  • God never spoke directly to any of His prophets except through an angel. The only exceptions are God direct talk to prophet Moses (without being shown to Moses) and God direct talk to prophet Muhammad during the prophet miracle called "Alisraa&Miiraj".
  • Prophet Muhammad ;when the Angel Gabriel talked to him;was meditating and worshiping God the same way was prophet Abraham doing.
  • The proofs claimed above that It was not the angel Gabriel are not correct for two reasons: First: The current readable God holy book texts are not reflecting real God words revelations to His prophets as Quran. They were written by more than one man and over hundreds of years after death of Jesus (Peace be upon him) and not in the original revelation language. So, no one knows the real feelings of other prophets when met with the angels. Second: One can read in the proofs that Quran is a real God word revelations to prophet Muhammad to believe that Quran was revealed to him by the angel Gabriel and in its current Arabic language without single letter change. This explains why many famous Christian priests and Jewish religious people and others converted to Islam.

With all due respect to our Muslim brothers and sisters and their belief that this did occur. I do not believe that this is true. Mohammed (PBUH) learned most of what is now in the Koran from a hermit whom he stayed with for some time. Also wisdom he learned from his travels.

I have no doubt that many will be tempted to reply to my remarks, so I say, "Let it be so".
