The Mazda 3 oil filter is on the right side of the engine between the right front wheel and the engine. It is best to remove the plastic underpan bolts, to change it. You do not have to remove the center bolt to drain it first. Remove the housing, lefty loosy, with a plier type wrench or one that fits the bottom serrations and then replace the cartridge insert and the o ring gasket.
