Peanuts are grown on five continents: Africa, Asia, Australia, and North and South America. The three leading producers of peanuts are China, India, and the United States. China and India produce more than 1/2 of peanuts worldwide. The United States produces about 1/10. [Within the United States, the main peanut producers are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, North and South Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia.] The rest of the world's peanut production comes mainly from Argentina, Brazil, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, and Sudan.

The major producers/exporters of peanuts are the United States, Argentina, Sudan, Senegal, and Brazil. Although India and China are the world's largest producers of peanuts, they account for a small part of international trade because most of their production is consumed domestically.
