In the movie it was in the cascade mountains, Washington state. However it was CGI and the mountain was a set built on the tarmac at the Van Nuys, CA. It was a 100 foot square model x 35 feet high (wood & steel) built to get sky views. See Dante's Peak Suburban on FaceBook for pictures.
