A slit immediately in the 'tail' proper - underbelly side. There is a small opening underneath the snakes body, several inches from the tip of the tail. Depending on the species, the opening is more prominent and is sometimes marked with a sudden tapering of the snakes body directly behind it.

Snakes do have butts. They just look different. They have a butt hole as well, which is located near the end of the tail.

A snake doesn't have a butt. It goes through the back of its tail.
