Ben Hur is not a Biblical character. He is a fictional character created by the novelist Lew Wallace in 1880. The novel suggests Ben Hur lived and interacted at the same time as Christ, but the author's work is a story, not a historical account.

The 'Ben-Hur' story line, depicted in the movies, is fictional, but the name means:

BEN=the son of + HUR=a man's name..."The son of Hur".

This reference can be found in one scripture:

(1 Kings 4:7-8) "And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel...And these are their names: The son of Hur, in mount Ephraim: ..."(KJV)

This is rendered 'Ben-Hur' in NIV and NASB and many other translations.
