One place is in your stomach. It helps to break down food and destroy pathogens. Your stomach lining excretes mucus in order to protect it from the stomach acid.

However, when hydrochloric acid is produced for retail, it is usually obtained as a by product of the chlorination reaction. Companies produce vinyl chloride so as to polymerise it, which produces poly vinyl chloride, or PVC, a plastic which can be used, for example, to make window frames or shiny clothes. When vinyl chloride is made, the reaction also produces hydrogen chloride, which can then be collected and sold to whoever wishes to purchase it.
