From the time of its construction (around 1901, if recollection of my Eugene, Oregon, historical research of about twenty years ago is correct) until its demolition in 1986, the Dr. Andrew W. and Amanda Patterson House was located at 751 East 11th Avenue. This is on the north side of the avenue, between Hilyard and Alder Streets. A replacement building now occupies the site and, because A. W. Patterson, M.D., was a prominent early resident of Eugene and a pillar of the community (as the saying goes), a plaque affixed to a small boulder memorializes the lost historic landmark. This, of course, was the residence immortalized as the fictional Delta Tau Chi fraternity house in National Lampoon's 1978 film, "Animal House."
