The crankshaft position sensor is near the front of the motor behind the starter. you need to remove the starter to change it.

Where is the crankshaft position sensor on a 2001 Mercedes ML320?
The 2001 BMW 325 crankshaft position sensor can be found on the back of the engine. The position sensor will be near the bottom of the rear engine cover.
Locate the front wire on the distributer and follow. it will lead to the crankshaft position sensor.
You have to drop the starter on the front bottom driver side of the engine... next to the transmission. The crank sensor is about in the middle of the block. One bolt holds it in.
The crankshaft position sensor is mounted on the front of the engine. It bolts on, and has one wiring plug.

The crankshaft sensor is located directly above the oil filter housing by the alternator.
The crankshaft position sensor is located right above the starter, you may have to remove the starter for better visibility.
