It is behind the glove box. Lower the glove box (there is a little plastic tab on the right to let it drop. The amp is behind there with 2 connectiors.
Remove the 2 wiring harnesses, then remove the spring clip from the top.. (reach up top and feel for it.
Once that's off, dislodge the amp with a little effort, and push it up and over to the right. Get it up into the open area in the top right and turn it so you can pull it out. Kind of a pain to get out, BUT DO IT THIS WAY. Don't worry about removing the mouting bracket.
i have a 97 Chevy Tahoe the amp. was above the gas accelerate mounted on a slant
Yes, from what I hear from audio specialists there is a factory amp either under the dash or drivers seat.
yes the amp is in the firewall behind the radio and also yes you can replace the factory sub with any 8 in sub of your choice.

Not sure on the 1996, but probably behind the glove compartment, or under the center console. Depends on which sound system came installed.
U run you own set of speaker wire from head unit to each speaker
It Is under the center console bucket.
A 2007 Chevy Avalanche will only have an external factory amplifier if it is equipped with a Bose stereo system. If there is a factory amp included, it will be underneath the center console.
