Where is the fuel filter located and how do you replace it on a 1990 VW Passat?

[Edit]

Answer

The fuel filter is roughly 1 foot in front of the passenger side rear tire. It looks like a gold can about 3" in diameter with hose barbs on either end.

Simply remove it from the bracket, clamp the fuel lines on either end (you can purchase these at the auto parts store), remove the spring clamps that hold the fuel lines to the old filter, and remove the old filter.

Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure the new filter is installed in the proper flow direction.

Answer

it is a football size can under the car in the rear on the passenger side. you must first remove the 4 screws on the cover and then the gas lines. this is not an easy job
