Fuel must flow through this filter in order for it to filter the fuel. The fuel flows from the fuel tank to the engine, via fuel lines. The filter is located somewhere between the tank and engine, along this line. Get down under the car and look for it. There is one exception. It is sometimes located inside the fuel tank with the pump. Answer On your 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6L SFI , the Fuel Filter is located: Under vehicle, passenger side, below seating area, passenger side of fuel tank, mounted on frame in fuel line Answer on my 1991 it was forward of the tank next to the frame. Have a 3/8" bolt handy to plug the hose and expect to be sprayed with pressurized gas anyway. Answer On my 2004 it is attached to the frame near the rear passenger side door by a hose clamp, so you need a screwdriver to loosen the clamp, and pliers to remove the lines.
