It's actually pretty easy to find once you get into it. The relay is located in the same spot on all models from 1988-1992 sold in the States. On the left side of the dash is a change, etc. fold out compartment. I have found it is easier to reach the relay if that is removed (couple of small screws, bolts). The relay is basically tucked up under the left side of the bottom of the dash. It is a rectangular shaped block and connector about 2" x 1" and is attached to bracket on the underside of the dash structure.
These are common failure components and are still available from a dealer for about $70. Prices might be different in your area. I'm in Wisconsin. Usually you get more life out it by leaving it detached from the bracket so you can reach it easier and follow this procedure.
Assuming your Check Engine light works when you start the car, turn the key to Run and wait. If everything is OK the yellow light should come on, then go out after a few seconds (usually about the time the beeping stops). If it does start the car. If not, tap on the relay until the light goes out or you can hear the fuel pump kick on. Then start the car.
Hope all this helps. By the way a Haynes manual goes for about $20 and has been a great help for the 10 or so years I've had my car. It doesn't tell everything but it's close.
