When you open the driver's door look between the door and the dash. There is a little panel on the side of the dash. Use a key to pop open the panel. You will see a series of small and large fuses. Mine has a white card on the inside of the panel giving each fuse a number. The radio fuse is number 42. It it is in the row of large fuses on the right side of the panel. Counting from the top down, it is the fifth fuse down. There should be a small white plastic tool below the fuses (kinda of like tweesers) that you can use to pull the fuse out and then pop it back in.
I was told by a serviceman at my dealership that if you leave a CD in the radio too long, then the computer in the radio messes up. Removing and replacing the fuse will reset the computer. If you remove your CDs from the radio on a regular basis, you should not have this problem.
I have found that if you remove the fuse and it still does not turn the radio on hit the Eject for the CD player and it should spit out your CD and the radio will kick back on. Good info! Thanks for the help! My Jetta has done this twice now! They should put this info in the owners guide!
(In my Jetta, it was indeed the fifth fuse from the top. But, it had the number 25 on it, could also be a 52 as some of them are upside down. Regardless, removing the fuse for a moment and sticking it back in did indeed fix my problem. Thank you for this very informative post. My twelve hour drive will now be less painful.)
