Nevada is the most mountainous U.S. State, with over 150 (named) individual mountain ranges; major ones include the Battle, Monitor, Ruby, Santa Rosa, Schell Creek, Sierra Nevada, Snake and Toiyabe.

Over 30 of Nevada's mountain peaks exceed 11,000 ft., with the highest point (Boundary Peak), reaching 13,140 ft.

The Great Basin - a series of depressions, flats, dry lakes, marshy salt pans and sinks, all scattered between ribbons of mountain ranges - stretches across much of the state. Low mountain desert areas (formerly prehistoric lakes) are situated northeast of Carson City.

The Mojave Desert spills across the California border into southern Nevada. Conditions here are dry, hot and windy, especially in summer. Cooper-colored mountains cover the desert floor, highlighted by Red Rock Canyon's bluffs, cliffs and petrified sandstone boulders.

Lake Mead, now a major recreation area, was formed by the building of Hoover Dam on the Colorado River. Lake Tahoe (shared with California) and the turquoise-colored Pyramid Lake (photo lower left) are the largest bodies of water.

The Colorado and Humboldt are the most significant rivers. Numerous smaller rivers flow from the mountains, but are often seasonal in nature, and quickly fade in the hot summer sun. and it is gay

Nevada has many different terrains. Over half of the land is covered by sagebrush, which is the state flower. Nevada is part of the Great Basin. the name 'Nevada' means 'snow-capped' in Spanish. It may seem ironic, considering that Nevada has some desert land and receives an annual average of 7.5 inches of precipitation. However, it comes from the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the distance. Some cities, such as Las Vegas, are densely populated with buildings all around. Other parts have less than ten people per square mile.

Nevada is fun, and it is desert. if you don't like desert then don't come here. we have las Vegas and Reno, Carson and elko. haha that rhymes. anyways, usually it has been rainy, which i like because it is different than our 100+* summer temperatures. but hey, im only 11. so yea!
