Powertrain Control Module
The center of the Electronic EC system is a microprocessor called the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM has a 104-pin electrical connector (Figure 21) . The PCM receives input from sensors and other electronic components (switches, relays). Based on information received and programmed into its memory, the PCM generates output signals to control various relays, solenoids and actuators.
PCM Locations
Escort, Tracer - passenger side under instrument panel.
Contour/Mystique, Taurus/Sable, Windstar, 5.4L F-Series - behind glove compartment (access from engine compartment dash panel) on passenger side.
Mustang - behind kick panel cover on passenger side, near instrument panel.
Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis - behind kick panel cover on driver side, near instrument panel.
Continental, Town Car - behind instrument panel (cowl), center to both driver and passenger sides.
Mark VIII - left cowl (near steering column) on driver side.
Ranger - behind instrument panel (cowl), center to both driver and passenger sides.
Explorer/Mountaineer - behind instrument panel (cowl), (access from engine compartment dash panel) on passenger side to center of vehicle.
Expedition/Navigator - lower dash panel on passenger side.
All other F-Series and all E-Series - lower dash panel on driver side.
Figure 21: Typical Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
Remove the console and the PCM is mounted right in front of the gear shifter, with the connector readily exposed and easy to access after the console is out of the way.
pcm, bad coil, bad motor, bad crank sensor, lots of ifs
The temperature sensor (sends coolant temp to the PCM) is located in the top of the thermostat housing. The temperature sender (sends coolant temp to the gauge) is located in the bottom front of the same housing.
Powertrain Control Module
On the Escort the ecm is called the pcm (power control module). It is located in the console inside the car just below the heater controls.
Answeron my zx2 the fuel pump relay and wiring harness are located just under the rear seats my zx2 is an s/r not sure if there is a difference but im pretty sure there isnt---------ZX2Fast----------All ZX2 (all 3rd generation Escorts for that matter) have the fuel pump relay in the Constant Control Relay Moudle (CCRM) which is located under the air filter box. The CCRM also has other system relays like A/C compressor, PCM power, etc.

Under the heating and A/C controls on the floor tunnel under the console.
Modern vehicles have their timing set by the PCM (computer), there is no adjustment.
With a custom-made exhaust manifold, a custom tuned PCM, and a lot of patience.
The PCM is located under the console towards the dash. Take console out.
Check under the air filter housing for the PCM (power control module) if you could open it you would see about 5 relays on a circuit board one of the relays is for ac compressor. In general change the PCM.
under the dash board on the drives side mounted in the firewall
