It's attached to the transaxle. Actually, the LS400 is rear wheel drive and doesn't have a transaxle. The sensor is located on the drivers side of the transmission. It is very hard to find. Recommend a repair manual or go to your local auto parts store and ask to see the diagram in their parts catalog of that item. Usually, it will show you where it is located.
Speed sensor
If you are referring to the sensor for the speedometer and the computer it is a 3 wire plug located on the tailshaft of the transmission
There is no speedometer cable. MPH is calibrated using a speed sensor. If your speedometer is not working, you have a bad speed sensor module.

The axle speed sensor measures the axle speed for ABS functions and for the speedometer.
I'm pretty sure the speedometer uses the transmission speed sensor. the rear axle speed sensor is for the rear antilock brakes.
