Mine (5.3L) is on the PASSENGER side underneath the engine. It has 2 bolts mounting it to the block and 2 wires on the solenoid (battery and ignition). Once you remove the two long mounting bolts, you can wiggle it towards the front of the vehicle to remove it (it takes some doing). Remember to disconnect your battery first to prevent any shorts. Battery side of engine low on the engine.
Disconnect battery positive, raise pass side vehicle enough to get under it behind wheel/tire. Follow pos batt cable to end to locate starter. Remove cable and wire(s) from solenoid on starter, noting location of all small wires. Find socket that fits bolt head on starter. Remove 2/3 bolts holding it on. BE CAREFUL removing last bolt to support starter FIRST, put jack or something under it. They weigh about 50#. Reverse to install

The 2002 Chevrolet Silverado starter is located on the left side of the engine, near the bottom. You can follow the positive battery cable from the battery to the starter.
