Transmission Dipstick
As the former owner of a 1987 560SEL, it took me awhile to find the tranny dipstick. Try this: Open the hood, and stand dead center, so the hood ornament is directly above your head. Look down and to the left, about a foot from the firewall. You are looking for a red cover (about the size of a quarter) with a clamp that goes down one side of the dipstick tube. Lift the clamp, and wiggle the dipstick out. Be careful,as it's a few feet long and very easy to get away from you. This incidentally is also the transmission fluid filler neck.
