They dont put one on because of a maintenance and money issue. You need to change filter when you change fluid. Plus many folks would think that is a job for the stealership...

The 1997 and 1999 Chevy Cavalier transmissions are exactly the same. The transmissions, transmission linkage, and transmission mounts are identical.
Remove the transmission pan.

It sounds like the transmission shifter linkage is disconnected.
The 1997 Cavalier has two motor mounts, as well as a transmission mount. If the mounts are broken the motor can move around and cause damage to components under the hood.
The Z24 has overdrive, the base models are 3 speed autos

Dont have one. There is a little plug on the tranny, underneath close to the oil drain plug. If fluid come out there... there is plenty in it. If it dont add until it does. I know it's stupid, but I didn't design it.
