Where is the transmission fluid on a 1997 volvo 960?

On a UK Volvo 960 (they are 3 litre straight-six models) to find the transmission dipstick, first stand at the front of the car and locate the OIL dipstick and then continue looking towards the engine bulkhead the rear of the engine.

The transmission dipstick is an arm length down. It has a square plastic yellow top that is recessed to accept a long 3/8 extension drive for removal. You can reach down, flick the spring loaded clip off with a thumb and withdraw the dipstick by hand.

One side of the dipstck is for checking the fluid level when cold; the other side is for with a hot transmission.
