A nonprofit organization, Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in several Olympic-type sports for children and adults intellectually challenged giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Some of the sports are Aquatics, Athletics, Basketball, Bocce, Bowling, Cycling, Equestrian, Figure Skating, Golf, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, Softball, Volleyball, and more.

Special Olympics offers 30 Olympic-type individual and team sports that provide meaningful training and competition opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities, including age-appropriate activities and activities for lower ability athletes. For persons with severe limitations who do not yet possess the physical and/or behavioral skills necessary to participate in these sports, Special Olympics also offers the Motor Activities Training Program (MATP).

The activities even go beyond sports! The organization receives no federal or state funds, relying entirely on corporate, civic and individual donations ~ operated totally by dedicated volunteers. Come on ~ ALL are welcome to come, join the fun ..."get involved with someone special!"
