There is a Boulangerie, on aveage, for every 100 people in France. Paris is full of them. They bake the finest bread in the world, mostly by artisanal methods. DO NOT buy bread at a supermarket. They use mass-produced ready-to-bake loaves with added preservatives. Their bread keeps longer and tastes much worse. stick to the real thing and eat it within a couple of hours - three if you buy it still warm. After that, feed it to the pigeons.
