Please note: one of the two hoses connected to the DPFE is a pressure sensor line that reads the variation in the exhaust pressure. This line is made of expensive, silicone to resist the high temperatures assosiated with exhaust. You'll notice it has much thicker walls than a vacuum line. This hose is often cracked, broken or burned through and repair or replacement can often cure the problem.

What does it look like...

  • Rectangular box about 3" tall x 5" wide x 1" thick (very rough estimate)
  • 2 vacuum hoses going upwards into the left side of the bottom
  • Wiring connection goes into right side of the "face"
Where to find it on the 24v Duratec engine First, let establish that the front of the engine has the serpentine belt - the opposite end is then the back.

The DPFE sensor then is mounted to a plate on the top right on the back of the engine.

It is below the Throttle body and above the transmission dipstick height.

I have the same engine, but if found my DPFE sensor mounted horizontally and supported by only the two vacum hoses it attaches too. you need to look carefully or you will miss it. Look about center of the engine between the intake manifold and the firewall, it is mounted with the vacum hoses pointing down and the power conector is towards the manifold ( it is below the level of the manifold so look from the passenger side of the car towards the firewall). Be PATIENT!!

Hope this helps you guys.

Where to find it on the 12v Vulcan engine

  • Mounted to the backside of the Intake Manifold - and basically faces the firewall - about 2/3s the way towards the front of the engine.
  • Readily accessible and easy to replace
  • Don't forget to label the hoses as you take them off
How to replace on a Duratec engine...
  • Looking at my 98, I'm going to suggest it might be just as easy to remove the throttle body or upper intake manifold (UIM) to get access to the DPFE sensor.

Removing the UIM might be overkill, but having done it to change sparkplugs, I can say it's really not that big an effort. Disclaimer: I haven't changed a DPFE, so I'm somewhat speculating about access being difficult - just observing what it looks like ;))

  • Remove the 2 mounting nuts
  • LABEL the 2 vacuum hoses before disconnecting them from the DPFE
  • Remove wiring connector
  • Reverse to install
Is there a way to test a DPFE sensor? Yes, but too involved to try and repeat here.

It is behind the upper intake between the intake and the firewall. Hard to get to without removing the upper intake. Remove the eight 8MM bolts holding down the upper intake, loosen the hose clamp connecting the intake tube to the throttle body, and unbolt the EGR valve. Then move the upper intake out of the way while disconnecting the 3 vacuum lines under and to the rear of the intake near the throttle body. Answer The DPFE sensor is located below the throttle body and intake plenum, near the fire wall on the back side of the engine. It will have two places for vacuum hose connection. both pointing downward and a electrical connector on it's face pointing towards the drivers side of the car. Answer There is actually 2 different V6 3.0 liter engines. One is a 12 valve and one is a 24 valve. On the 12 valve the dpfe is behind the upper intake manifold, between the engine and firewall close to the middle of the car. On the 24 valve it is down below the throttle body area, almost completely hidden by hoses and wires and stuff. Look right below where the air snorkel attaches to the throttle body, toward the friewall slightly. It's down in that area on the 24 valve engine.

.

Remove the hoses. Unclip the electrical connector. Remove the bolts that hold it in place. Reverse to install the new one.

Answer - 1998 DOHC EGR valve should be front of intake just behind throttle body. 2 bolts and 2 nuts hold it on, it'll have a green, plastic vacuum line going to its top. DPFE Sensor will be firewall side of engine, will have a 3 wire connector to it and 2 reinforced vacuum lines at its bottom.

Answer Depending on which engine you have, the DPFE is usually mounted to the upper intake manifold. It's a rectangular box. On the 24 valve engine, it's tucked away under the passenger side of the manifold. You will have to remove the cowling near the cabin air filter to get access to it.

How to test - replace the EGR valve - DPFE Sensors on 1996-1999 Taurus - Sable?

It is located at the back of the engine on the top between the engine block and the front winshield. It should be black or chrome colored and kind of looks like a disk, with a small vacuum hose couimg out the top of it.You can see a picture in the Haynes Repair Manual for Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable on page 6-2. Hope that helps.Just replaced mine in my Taurus today.AmandaThis is a pretty straight forward replacement - only 2 mounting bolts, a vacuum hose and one other pipe that'll come off with an adjustable wrench.NOTE: this notice is from the Autozone.com site regarding the EGR valve:**Caution!!** Before replacing the EGR Valve, inspect the DPFE/EGR Valve Pressure Feedback Sensor and hoses for proper operation. It is common for a DPFE sensor to set a trouble codeSee "Related Links" below for the DPFE sensor section of Autozone's online repair guide.

Where is the DPFE sensor on a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer?

The DPFE sensor is located in the center of the vehicle near the firewall. It is easiest to see and replace if you remove the plastic cover on top of the engine.

Can you replace the dpfe sensor on a 2002 Taurus ses v6 from the top or do you have to install it from the bottom of the engine?

You can replace it from top, the dpfe sensor is located under the throttle at the drivers side of the engine and it hooks on two pipes and electric connector. You have to remove the air cleaner, MAF sensor, throttle and the throttle sensor connector to get to it. It is hidden behind few hoses and connectors so you need too look real hard. I hope this will help you out and good luck!

Where to find and how to replace a DPFE sensor on a Taurus Sable?

the dpfe is a small metal box on top of and behind the engine. It should be about 3in. wide by 2in. tall by 1in. deep. It has two screws that hold it on on the left and right side. There are two hoses that connect at the bottom of the sensor and one wire harness that plugs in. To replace, simply pull off the hoses and wire harness and unscrew the screws. When replacing, make sure you put the correct hoses in place (one has a smaller hole than the other). It is best to replace with an OEM part, but cheaper plastic ones can be used, although the don't fit very well.

Does anybody knows the meaning of trouble code P1400?

The code P1400 reads "DPFE Sensor Voltage Low" (Ford, Mazda). Often it's caused by a bad DPFE sensor or clogged EGR passages. DPFE stands for (Differential Pressure Feedback EGRI) I would clean the EGR valve which cost nothing. If that does not cure the problem, you may need to replace the DPFE sensor, which does cost, and it may not fix the problem. If you want to be sure you replace the correct part, then visit your local Ford dealer. dpfe stands for delta pressure not differential.
