Benjamin Franklin was one of the Founding Fathers and a genius. He helped create the American system of government. However, he never served as president.
However, in 1785 he was elected as President of Pennsylvania Executive Council which, in those days was a position similar to a governor. Another interesting fact, Benjamin Franklin is one of only two non-presidents to appear on US paper currency. Franklin appears on the US$100 bill; Alexander Hamilton appears on the US$10 bill.
The last statement above needs a modifier. Salmon P. Chase is on the $10,000 bill, of which, according to the US Treasury, there are still 336 known to be in circulation.
Benjamin Franklin was never President of the United States; but he was President of Pennsylvania, which is what the job used to be called-- today it would be called "Governor." He served from 1785-1788.
Benjamin Franklin was an important person in early U.S. history, but he was not a President of the United States. He was, however president of various organizations.
Benjamin Franklin was elected the first president of the American Philosophical Society in 1743. In 1785 he was elected the president of the Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery and for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage. On October 18, 1785 he was unanimously elected the sixth president of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, replacing John Dickinson.
