Various countries claim to have been the first to have invented it, and in the 1930s a number of countries were working on radar for military purposes. Robert Watson-Watts (1892-1973) is widely regarded as the inventor of a large-scale practical system, which he patented in April 1935 (British patent). He played a key role in setting up an early warning system, round Britain, of approaching enemy aircraft.
At the same time the British government also experimented with detection and ranging ('distancing') by heat from aircraft engines. However, it became obvious that detection by heat still needed many years of research and development, whereas radar didn't.
The basic idea of sending out a beam and picking up its 'reflection' or return is much older.
As far as I know, radar was invented by a Hungarian scientist named Zoltan Bay. That radar was first used in World War II by the British troops.
Radar!
No world is a stage, and you cannot detect a helicopter unless you have the radar station (radar alone is not sufficient)
Normal radar sends out radio waves to determine the location of an object. Doppler radar can not only find the location of an object or storm, but using something known as the Doppler effect can determine how fast it is moving towards or away from the radar.
