There have been multiple alligators within the 14-15 foot range caught and confirmed throughout history, mostly in Louisiana and Florida. The likely maximum size for an American alligator is just over 15 feet. The anecdotal reports of a 19 foot alligator from Louisiana in the 19th Century are erroneous. Given what we know about alligators, it is simply not possible for an alligator to grow so large (genetic limitations, etc.) It would have made no difference if it were in the present day or 100 years ago...the species is the same.
In the West Alligator River Northern Territory Australia. It's name was Charlie and grew to 24.3 feet although some say to 26 feet. It was a saltwater crocodile.

The world's largest alligator is the American Alligator (Alligator Mississippiensis), and they usually average out at lengths of 12 - 14.5 FT. However, one specimen measured 19ft 2inches in Louisiana! Hope that helped :)

Alligators are reptiles and reptiles continue to grow their whole life, but the growth rate slows down the older they get. So yes technically an alligator could grow that large, but the largest alligator on record measured 19 feet 2 inches and was caught in Louisiana in the early 1900's.
yes
an alligator gar caught in Texas in 1991 weighed 365 pounds
It is Alligator.
On hook and line? The world record alligator gar is a fish that weighed 279 lbs. exactly, caught in the Rio Grande. Still larger alligator gar have been taken by spear, and by net.
