There are two main types of 3D TV technology - active and passive. This refers to the way the glasses work with the sets. Most 3D TVs require glasses to watch 3D images, though there are a couple of TVS on sale in Japan only which don't require glasses.
You can watch 3D TV in the comfort of your own home using either of the main technology types. They both get good reviews of the sets, though of course some are better than others.
