Highest paid to start, or highest paid if you make it to 30 years? It's not uncommon to have officers start at $35,000 a year, right out of the academy. Cities with a good tax base can pay a lot more than that, but have higher standards than a smaller city. Most police departments have a website. Look it up, and ask what they start a patrol officer at.

Something I would like to add on is that in Washington DC, the United States Captiol Police (USCP) make well over 95k. And most patrol officers on the squad make 100k. Their high income is a result of the area they work in. Their job is to patrol and protect the United States Capitol and surrounding areas of DC for crime and drugs.

That really depends on what agency you join and or where you live. Usually if you work in a city or state that has a high population of people (more crime) than they will pay more, but there may be a higher cost of living there. Police Officers that live and work in small cities in places like the mid USA, will usually get paid less because of the small populations (less crime) but there may be a low cost of living.

I would suggest going on the agencies website you may consider joining, and they will usually have that kind of information on there. Also you should think about how much they will pay out for your retirement each month, and other things such as pay raises. They may offer higher pay for Officers with College Degree's or for those who can speak Spanish. Or those who stay in shape and many other things, so just keep an open mind on all aspects of it and not on just one thing.

Are the police in on gangstalking?

I have been and am a victim of gangstalking. And yes, there are police officers who will engage in gangstalking. I have experienced it myself. Fortunately, within the past couple years in my home town, two police officers of high ranking were demoted for making horrible and disparaging racist remarks in two local newspapers. Also, the narcotics cops were caught doing drugs from the evidence room, stealing money and spending a lot of time at the casinos on city time. I believe this public exposure, demotion of the officers and subsequent hirings have had a chilling effect on police officers who would participate in gangstalking. To reiterate, yes, police have engaged in gangstalking. They are just people. Why wouldn't they.

Are police officers firefighters?

No, Firefighters actually fight fires, and Police Officers fight crime. However! -In some municipalities (towns) in America, these professions are performed by people that are cross-trained. In fact, one town that I know of has their city employees trained as Police, Fire, AND Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs are ambulance-riding first-responders) that work three 24-hour shifts per week. So for the first eight hours of their shift, they are Police Officers. The second eight hours they are Firefighters, and the third eight hours of their shift, they are EMTs. Then they get 24 hours off.

When was Suffolk police force created?

The Sheriff of Nansemond County was in charge of policing Suffolk, as well as Nansemond County, until 1858. In 1858, Suffolk was granted a charter and the first town sergeant was elected. After 1910, the town sergeant would be called Chief of Police. The sheriff would still be in charge of Nansemond County law enforcement until October 1970, when the Nansemond County Police Department was founded. The City of Suffolk Police Department and the Nansemond County Police Department merged in January 1974. The sheriff and the town sergeant were both elected officers.

How many police officers should a town have?

Depends on the number of people living in the area. A larger town/city would need more than a smaller one. Some places need more but because of budget have cut back on jobs.

What institution supervises the police force?

Their Chief's are answerable to the elected top official(s) of the jurisdiction in which they work (e.g.: city/town/county/state). However, other than that, police departments are self-managing agencies that are part of the Executive Branch of government. Most larger city police forces also have an internal investigation division, as well as citizen counsels that oversee police operations. It is debatable if these fit the strict definition of "Supervising" the police force, as: A 'Strict definition' of this term would make only a few officers (management officers / Supervisors) involved in the day to day operations, or in a loose definition these other agencies have 'effective' supervisory position (the positions, influence the polices, procedures, and conduct of officers); "Supervisory" used in the loose definition is a 'power' and 'accountability' over the agency.

What branches of the police force solve missing person cases?

Varies by police force. A small town force of three officers isn't going to have a dedicated branch for it, you know? For a force which does, there might be a specific missing persons bureau, or there might just be a general detectives' branch.
