Depends on how you do the stats historically people might think Britain or one of the other European powers but isn't the case because all of these wars were against rebels and less inferior opponents or Britain allied itself with others to win wars. Famously Britain has had a tough time against the Russians and France as they lost a lot of these wars. If you look at who alone beat the best around then you have to look at romans, mughals who more or less beat everyone that was tough around them more so mughals because Romans never won/conquered the chinese, japanese and had tough times against the Russians whereas the mughals ruled some parts or all of these countries barring Western Europe they didn't get that far but also Europe was in the control of Romans at that point.

This all depends on how you classify a "war". But by any classification, it is not the United States, which may or may not currently possess the best army (Again, it depends on what standards you use to judge. Size? Training? Technology? Budget?)
Having been around for only two hundred years, there is no way the United States could compete with the European armies for most wars or battles won.
That all being said, I would wager that it would most probably be France, though I wouldn't be surprised of Britain or Austria held the number one spot.

∙ 16y agoI would think, by a long way, its WW2. Especially as it was both fought European & Pacific theatres. Virtually all of Europe was at one time or another involved as well as much of the Far East, and North Africa.

∙ 13y agoThis question is, truthfully, very controversial. I've heard people say France, Italy, Rome, Greece, etc., but the most common answer is Britain. However, just because Britain is the most common answer doesn't mean its right. In truth, Britain (not England), has been involved in a total of approximately 109 wars. Now, that may sound like a lot, but when compared to other countries, that's only 3 more than Poland has been involved in (106). However, if you were to include England (before it became Britain), than that's only 22 more wars than Poland. England by itself has a mere 19. As for the people who argue that America has fought the most wars, you must not forget that America is truthfully a pretty young country (it's only fought about 77 wars). Another factor you must ask about is how long are the wars? Some wars have lasted over 100 years, while the shortest lasted a mere 45 minutes. Also, while everyone points to the European countries, you also need to consider ones such as China. In China, there was usually some sort of war/conflict leading up to the collapse of a dynasty, that's already over 20 there. Not to mention that there was once a time in China called the "Warring States Period" that lasted for about 254 years, up until the unity of China by the Qin. As for the Romans, they've fought less wars than the Americans (approximately 75)! For Greece, it depends on if you're talking about the unified Greece, or if you include when it was made up of City-States (Sparta, Athens, etc.), because the Greek City-States constantly fought among themselves (especially Sparta and Athens). Lastly, Italy (the modern, unified Italy) has fought less than 20 wars, so I think that the people who said Italy meant to include Rome and when Italy was split up into North and South. Consequently, it's nearly impossible to figure out which country has fought in the most wars, and even if it is Britain/England, it's not by much.
