All of the elements in Group 18(0) - Inert Gases (exc. Radon) are highly unreactive. The Inert Gases are situated on the far right hand side of the Periodic Table. The elements in the Inert Gases group are :

Helium

Neon

Argon

Krypton

Xenon

Radon

All elements have known radioactive isotopes. There are thirty six that have no radioactive isotopes found in nature except as a result of human activity or, very rarely, as decay products. These are, by period on the periodic table and ordered by atomic number:

  1. helium
  2. lithium, boron, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, neon
  3. magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur
  4. scandium, titanium, cobalt copper, zinc, gallium, arsenic, bromine
  5. yttrium, niobium, ruthenium, rhodium, silver, antimony, xenon
  6. barium, praseodymium, terbium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, iridium, gold, Mercury, thallium

The noble gases(He, Ne, Ar,etc.) i.e, the elements in the 18th period of the modern periodic table tend not to react.

This is because these elements have a very stable electronic configuration(consists of fully filled orbitals). As a result their Electron affinity or ionization potential (necessary for reaction) is very high, for which they cannot easily form ions and react with other elements.

EXCEPTIONS

But this elements often react to give compounds like their respective hydrides, etc.
