Some actors and other entertainers such as famous boxers served in the military. There were also some who served the soldiers by entertaining them. Bob Hope was one example. Let's not forget Joe E. Brown (he of the oversized mouth) or Glen Miller, the big band orchestra conductor, who brought dozens of "stars" to the troops at the front lines and led the Air Force Band for 2 or 3 years until he was lost in a cargo plane disappearance on the way to the front in 1944.
