The purpose of the experiment was to discover how the type of bread affected the amount of mold. The bread was cut and placed in separate Ziploc bags. The bread was measured for mold every day and was recorded on the data sheet. My hypothesis was "If the white, wheat, whole wheat, sourdough, and sweet bread were placed in Ziploc bags and left for 20 days, then the sweet bread would grow the most mold because the sweet bread had the most energy (sugar) that the mold can use to grow." Whole Wheat bread was the type of bread that grew the most mold, while white, wheat, and sourdough did not grow any mold. When Whole Wheat bread was left to mold, it grew an average of 60.91 square cm. When sweet bread was left to mold, it grew an average of .58 square cm. of mold. When white, wheat, and sourdough were left to mold, they grew no visible mold.

I find that when my bread begins to mold, I notice it first on the top or side crust of the bread (verus the soft middle part)... I think it's because mold needs air and moisture to really get started.

Of course, this is for regular store-bought bagged bread. Home-made bread may mold differently.

The type of bread is less important than whether or not any preservatives are in the bread. Organic bread tends not to have preservatives, so it could potentially mold faster--but not necessarily.

mold grows quickly on bread because bread has many ingredients that causes mold to form such as white bread has yeast which causes mold to form quicker than mold may form on others. some times trying to answer a question like DOES MOLD FORM ON WHITE BREAD OR WHEAT BREAD QUICKER your answer would be white bread because 1)white bread is less healthier than wheat and 2) white bread has yeast which again causes mold to form quicker. mold grows on white bread between 3-6 days and mold forms on wheat bread between 1-3 weeks.

Homemade bread and store bought bread essentially has the same ingredients, but the store bought bread has a little extra something (preservation) to keep the bread fresh! Homemade bread doesn't have preservation, therefore mold grows faster on homemade bread!

Hope this helps!! :)

Because mold, like all other plants, needs moisture to live. The drier the bread, the less likely mold will be able to grow.

What types of bread will mold grow fastest on?

Mold needs a few factors to grow1) high humidity2) warm temperatures3) food sourceIf you were to keep humidity and temperature constant, I would say that wheat bread would grow mold faster. Rye bread is often more acidic because Lactobacillus maybe used in the dough raising process. The anaerobic respiration of lactobacillus can mean higher acidity of the dough and therefore a lower pH value.Mold will grow quicker on white bread than it will grow on rye or plain brown wheat bread. It also depends on the formulation of the bread, whether or not it contains artificial or natural preservatives, the quality of the ingredients - and their original state of freshness - and then, of course, the conditions under which the bread was produced and the conditions in which it is being stored. It depends on what moldy environment you'd prefer to keep your bread in my friends...Put five to 10 drops of water on the piece of bread and store in a warm, dark place. After 5 to 10 days, you should notice some fuzzy white, black, orange or green spots on the bread. Once visible, the mold will grow noticeably each day.

Why does your gas water heater flame go out as soon as it lights. My pilot stays lit. Is this a bad T-Stat or gas valve?

sounds like you have a bad thermocouple. The thermocouple senses the pilot flame and produces voltage to tell main flame to light. Thermocouple can be bought at any hardware store.

Did the bread made in the old days last longer than the store bought bread of present day?

No Asked mother in law, she is Navajo and lives the old way, bread never lasted long enough in the family "kitchen" to have mold problems as it was a staple, so it did not last long on the shelf or in storage and was often made every day. Store bought bread now days have preseratives, thank god for nitrates and other good stuff for us. I can tell you that from experience, my homemade bread will mold way before store bought, my bread will last about 7 days MAX. Store bought is about 2 weeks if stored well.

How much salt is in store bought bread?

What you want to ask, is how much Sodium is in store bought bread. Having said that, all you have to do is go look in the store at the bread and look at the sodium count. The sodium count is going to differ from bread to bread, so there is no real answer to this question.
