==The South Pole== The South Pole is generally colder than the North Pole, partly because it is higher (9000' above sea level) and partly because it is further from the warming effects of water. On the other hand, neither is considered the coldest place on Earth. Parts of Siberia and Greenland are often colder than the North Pole, and Vostok Station in Antarctica with an elevation of around 11,500' is not only colder than the South Pole, but is considered the coldest place on Earth with an average temperature of -67F.

Taking an average temperature over a period of time, the South Pole averages 30 degrees lower than the North Pole. The South Pole is colder, by about 30 degrees F, because of it being located on a continent -- Antarctica. The North Pole is located on sea ice.

The coldest place in the world, is Antarctica, where you can find the South Pole. The coldest atmospheric temperature ever recorded there (or anywhere on earth) was -89.6 degrees Celsius (-128.5 degrees Fahrenheit) at Vostok, Antarctica on July 21st, 1983.

I cannot give you a definitive answer, but this may help. The North and South Poles are equidistant from the equator. The North Pole is located on an ice sheet floating on the Arctic Ocean at sea level (more or less). The South Pole is located on the continent of Antarctica. The Antarctic Ice Sheet consists of about 13.72 million sq km of permanent ice representing 90% of the world's ice and is up to 4 km thick in places. The Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) experienced the world's lowest temperature when -89.6 degrees Celsius was recorded on 21st July, 1983, at Vostok Station at an elevation of 3488 metres. Possibly, the South Pole is the colder of the two.

Another Answer

On average the South Pole is around 30° F colder than the North Pole, because of there being a continent there.

The south pole is colder than the north pole by about 30 degrees F. This is because the south pole is located on a continent, 98% of which is covered with an ice sheet nearly two miles thick. The north pole is on 13,000 feet of sea water covered with frozen sea ice.

Both poles are very cold, only rarely measuring above-freezing temperatures.

The South Pole is about 30 degrees F colder than the North Pole, because of the continent of Antarctica, which is 10% of the Earth's surface storing about 90% of the Earth's store of ice.

Since Antarctica is a land mass -- covering 10% of the earth's surface -- it is about 30 degrees F. colder that the Arctic seas where you find the North Pole.
