I'm guessing by "higher" you mean "better". Both a Bachelor and Associate degree will presumably give you the same training (as long as both have strong respiratory programs). You attend school for 4 years to get a Bachelor degree and technically you only attend for 2 years to get an Associate degree, but that's 2 years of resp. classes only. You do have to have quite a few prerequisite classes taken care of before you get to the resp classes. So it would take around 3-4 years to complete an Associates degree as well. All graduates must take a standardized national board exam to become an actual respiratory therapist (same test regardless of which degree you have). A Bachelors degree may help you later on, especially if you want to advance to a managerial position. Associates degree may be cheaper overall and offer more flexible learning options.

Associates in science degree?

There are a few different kinds of associate's degrees. You can earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Sciences. The Associate of Arts, or A.A. as it is commonly called, encompasses a liberal arts and sciences background, with emphasis on the humanities. The A.A. is a good degree to have under your belt if you choose to pursue a bachelor degree in a writing or arts-based field. The Associate of Science degree program gives a liberal arts and sciences background as well, but keeps an emphasis on math and science. Students going into business, engineering, or agriculture are encouraged to earn an Associate of Science. Associate of Applied Science is specifically geared towards students who want to finish their degree and move directly into employment. Many times A.A.S. degrees are available in nursing, medical assisting and so on.An associate's degree is a good first step to take on your road of education. You will emerge from community college confident of your direction, with a certificate to show for it. Is there a such thing as just a bachelor's degree?

Every degree has a specific program of study. The bachelor's degree is a general level of higher education from which many specific programs of study fall. The bachelor's degree are largely broken down into two types, a bachelor's of arts and a bachelor's in science and under these categories there are specific majors. Example, a bachelor's in science in engineering. Or a bachelor's of arts in communication etc. In this sense, there is no such thing as just a bachelor's degree.
