I would say that lying on a bed of nails would be less painful, as your weight would be more evenly distributed over a larger surface area.

heel pain can be a matter of posture which can be fixed by seeing a chiropractor regularly or simply getting more supportive shoes but if you go from lying down to standing and it hurts and feels like part of your heel is almost missing those are heel splints and and can really only be fixed with cortizone shots.
