It all depends on what you consider 'not too expensive.'
You can get a Fluke or a flea for about $200 and they are considered very good for the price. I like the Ohana for about the same price, solid wood. There are many really nice ukuleles for about that price.
If you want something at about half that price, look at the Kala line. They have a nice variety and a couple of nice ones under $100. Lanikai also has a nice selection.
You could also check out eBay for some deals.

∙ 12y agoSorry, but the question is too vague to be able to provide a solid answer. There are hundreds of Ukulele makers. There are price points where certain manufacturers have their sweet spot.
For under $100 I believe the Kala brand are very good.
Around the $200 mark, the Ohana is a great value, and the Fluke and Flea are well respected.
The real answer is what ukulele sounds best to you and your style of playing.

∙ 11y agoWell that depends a great deal on your budget as well as your personal preferences. Whether you want acoustic or electric, or acoustic-electric will affect your choice as well. Vintage or brand new is another choice. Your best bet is to visit a music store and try them out. If you have friends with ukuleles try them out.
