That all depends on what you are looking to get out of the military. and normally who you ask depends on what branch there in, i say the Marine Corps is the best branch for training and skill basis, but if your looking for laid back, military with top of the line barracks, and gear then that would be the airforce, because the best Marine Corps Barracks is still far below the worst Air Force Barracks

The Marine Corps offers challenges no other branch of service in the U.S. has, the Marine Corps is one of the toughest and best in the World. Understand, the Army, Navy, and Air Force in their own rights are the best in the world at their particular craft, the Marines is more physically demanding therefore I say it is the best.

The United States Marine Corps, simper fi!

Marine Corps is a Headstrong proud branch that only accepts intelligent people who meet certain Mental and Physical requirements with squeaky clean background checks. Marines are the First to Go if something happens and usually the last to leave. Marine Corps also the smallest branch and has the smallest budget, so all the equipment is usually extremely outdated vs. what is available to the other branches. This also feeds in to the Ego " Do More with Less / SEMPER Gumby always flexible / Improvise, adapt, overcome" They Will put you through hell Physically Mentally emotionally and Treat you like Family. It takes longer to pick up rank in the Marine corps than any other branch.

Army is more or less the same. They have similar requirements (Lower) as the Marine corps but they also have Waivers to get around any requirement. Unlike the Navy and Marine Corps, Orders and Rules are more a guideline than set in stone. They are the largest branch, and have a very large budget, They have a lot of really smart people that are in charge of a lot of really dumb people. They are not as tight on their restrictions as the Marine corps or Navy or Air force. They will bribe you with the enlistment bonuses to join which you will not get all up front but is still nice. They offer very similar training to the Marine corps, and a lot of pride for those who go above and beyond (Airborne / Rangers / Delta) They usually have the coolest gear and most up to date equipment. They However are the sustainment crew, deployments are a minimum of a year which would impact your ability to be with your dependants. Plus your first enlistment you will be surrounded by stupid people and automatically associated with them.

Navy is well, the Navy. You will most likely be on a Ship. The Ship is your home as long as you are stationed there. That means you will most likely be separated from your family the majority of the time. You will receive great training as well as several snazzy uniforms and get to see the world. But you will ultimately suffer from lack of family time. Expect living in very close quarters. They are probably the second Safest choice with the least amount of casualties.

Air Force (Chair Force) Well They have been known for the Easiest physical requirements and the strictest mental requirements. However The Physical requirements now resemble that of the Army. The environment is more like a regular office environment opposed to a Military (Hard Corp) environment. They will offer great technical training, and have the least impact on family life. They are the Hardest branch to get in to because so many people want to be Air Force. They are probably the Safest choice with the least amount of casualties. They do have the highest number of educated members. Most Air Force deployments are 6 months /180 Days.

Most of the Differences in the Branches are marginal. Each branch is a good choice for someone. No matter what branch you choose remember to stay grounded, be responsible, and keep your head screwed on straight it can be a huge benefit to you as a person.

I have heard from several sources, including those who served in the US Army, that the US Air Force offers the best education and career opportunities.

if you mean best as in best trained and most elite, it is the marine corps

Each Branch of the US Military offers the same exact educational opportunities, however the Army and Air Force push their soldiers to continue the Educational goals and push career and professional growth, the Army offers over 160 different jobs that the individual chooses at the recruiting station prior to going to MEPS for enlistment (pending a qualifing score on the ASVAB and a vancancy exsists), The Air Force offers 4 career fields (pending a qualifing score on the ASVAB and a vancancy exsists), , you choose the field at MEPS and the Air Force chooses the individual job in that field after completion of you Basic Training. When it comes to the best training it is a matter of opinion, the majority of the Marine Corps job schools are conducted on an US Army Base with US Army Soldiers. Another thing to think of is what branches have elite forces? Only 2 the US Army and US Navy, the Army has 3 different types of elite forces, Ranger, Special Forces and Delta Forces the Navy has only 1 Navy Seals, lets think about this, if the Marines were to be the best in all categories do you think that they would have an elite force and for those (smartbutts) the Marines are not that great or highly trained that they do not need an elite force. Again it is a matter of opinion on toughness or strength.

That is going to depend heavily on the person considering joining. Each service has a different mission and deplys in different ways. Your best option is to keep an open mind and discuss your future goals with recruiters from all branches. You should be able to find a good fit.

Right now, enlistment incentives are very similar for all branches, but some other things you will want to consider are:

  • If you want to see the world, consider Naval enlistment, but request a rating that will ensure you are assigned sea duty.
  • If you want combat action, consider the Army or Marines.
  • If you want experience that will transfer easily to civilian life afterward, consider the Air Force.

Just remember not to sign anything with any service until you are certain you have made the best decision. Keep in mind also, that taking an MOS or rating that is not normally a combat position does not preclude you from being deployed into a combat theater. Soldiers, sailors, and airmen go where they are sent, and do as they are ordered.

That all depends on what you want to get out of it. If, for example, you wanted seafaring experience, you probably wouldn't join the Air Force. If you wanted to be a fighter pilot, then you'd "aim high" at the Air Force. So you need to figure out what you want to do, what you want to get out of your experience, etc. before this question can be accurately answered.

Individual Opinions:
  1. MARINES and NAVY are the best, to many in the army, airforce you get to fly, the few the proud, the marines, marines are always called on to save the day, ww2

Air Force, they have better equipment, food, brains, money

If you want combat though than I would suggest another branch or you could go into combat control (Apprentice)

If you have prior service do you have to go to basic training again if you join another branch?

If you have prior military service, you may not have to go through basic training again if you join another branch. The decision depends on various factors such as the length and type of your previous service, as well as the policies of the branch you are joining. In many cases, prior service members are exempt from repeating basic training, but they may still have to complete a shorter retraining program or attend an orientation course. It is best to consult with a recruiter from the branch you wish to join for specific guidance.

Can you join a different branch in the military after finishing your duty on one?

Yes, after you finish your service commitment with one branch, you can join a different branch. But depending on which branch you are from and which branch you are going to determines what training you'll have to do. If you are from the Marines, switching to Army, you would have to take a four week training course called the Warrior Transition Course.
