The United States Air Force is by far the most powerful in the World. There are many other formidable air forces, notably those of Israel, France and the United Kingdom, Germany, PR China, India, Russia etc, all of which have significant numbers of combat aircraft, and capabilities extending way beyond air defence of the homeland & tactical air support such as strategic airlift and deep strike & long range interdiction.

None of these, however, can match the sheer scale and range of capabilities of the USAF which musters more first class combat aircraft than the total possessed by the next 5 largest air forces combined; can conduct strategic bombing of targets thousands of miles from home bases, and, if necessary, transport in a single lift an entire airborne division (82nd AB) to a drop zone anywhere in the World within 72 hours of receiving notice to go!

Additionally, the USAF operates the United States' formidable arsenal of land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles; is a pioneer of remotely piloted strategic drone operations, and as the lead element of US Space Command is now extending its remit beyond Earth's atmosphere!

Without doubt, the United States Air Force is the strongest in the World, and relative to the strength of potential/ likely enemies, the strongest in the history of air warfare.
