The statement below about dentists is an old wives' tale. The data is inconclusive relative to occupation. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), the only thing they can really say regarding occupation related to suicide is that generally medical people have a higher suicide rate. When adding in other factors they found that white male physicians, black male guards (including police, protective services, etc), and white female painters/sculptors have statistically significant higher suicide rates. I've heard a number of answers. First the highest in terms of percentage is farmers - easy access to guns, lonely existence etc. But in terms of highest number from a partiular profession it is teachers .
The answer is not dentists.
