Which states use a caucus for presidential nominations? |
Answer
Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa, Nevada, Nebraska, Washington, Maine, Wyoming, Texas, Utah***.
Texas has both a primary and a caucus, giving democratic voters the opportunity to legally vote twice. 2/3 of the delegates in Texas are determined by primary results and 1/3 of the delegates in Texas are determined by the caucus results.

I live in Washington state. What criteria is used to determine which states are caucus states and which are primary states??? Is it populaltions? Is it a draw from a hat? Do the people living in the state vote on it? I have never been asked to vote on this question.
Why do the Democrats and Republicans use different percentages to determine the candidate? How does this guarantee a fair representation of each parties' preferances. At the least the votes should be counted from the same place. The way it is it seems as tho the democrats must take a full day and go thru a lot of hastle listening to arguments about who to elect, while the republicans can make up their minds at times they determine convenient and mail in their ballots. Am I being paranoid comparing this to the tests the blacks had to take before they could vote? I hope this is not the case!
Years ago, when the main way people were informed regarding candidates was the "town folk", so to speak, it was necessary to have caucus's. People now are busy at all different times. and they have many ways to become informed. Television, books, newspapers, as well as neighbors and co-workers, to name a few, and at a time where they can really concentrate on the real issues.
I realized this is not just a question, but I would greatly apopreciate some answers and maybe even some feedback.
