Shakespeare was a partner in the Lord Chamberlain's Men, afterwards the King's Men. It is not known whether he had managerial functions in the partnership and if so, to what extent. He was, along with Burbage and Kempe one of the people paid on behalf of the company for a court performance. Cuthbert Burbage, Richard's brother, was also a partner and does not appear to have been an actor, so it is assumed that he was the main business manager for the company.
